October Favorites

It’s another month gone! Time for me to share some of my favorite things!

1. Favorite Planner Item

PPCo Goal Planning (DR-038)

I’ve been waking up an hour earlier for the last few weeks, working on some neglected goals for my channel.

This is the insert I’ve been using to keep track of those goals.

It’s pretty simple. Three goals fit on each side of the page, so this isn’t probably right for those long-term, intense life goals. But it’s perfect for all of the small projects I have going.

2. Favorite Babyproofing Item

Closet Door Locks

I have this lofty ambition to child-proof the office so I can work on my computer while the baby’s awake.

It may be a pipe dream, but I made one step in that direction this month: installing a child lock on the closet door.

I don’t trust myself with a drill, so I love any home improvement job that uses adhesive, because it means I don’t have to bug my husband to do it for me.

This little lock is so simple to install, and works exactly as advertized. It even came in a two pack, so now our shower is safe from the ravages of a wandering shampoo thief.

3. Favorite Cloth Diapering Supply

Extra Wetbags

This one is a cautionary tale about frugality.

We started out with two travel size wetbags: one to use and one to wash.

That was great back when she was a newborn and we did laundry every other day. (Plus we left the house less often early on) But now that she’s a year old and we’re washing diapers twice a week, and sending her to the babysitter every day, it wasn’t cutting it. So I bought two more.

And… I still never had enough. I’d end up needing to reuse a dirty one, or use a grocery bag instead. The thing is, we pay for grocery bags in California. 10 cents a piece.

I got two more wetbags (bringing our total to a comfortable 6) for $3.50 each, and every time we use one we save 10 cents, so we only have to use them 35 times each for it to be worth it. Plus, I don’t have to worry about having enough anymore!

4. Agnes' Favorite Toy

Noah's Ark

Agnes got this as a Christmas gift last year when she was 6 months old. She loved holding the figures and chewing on them.

Now that she’s 15 months old, I’ve pulled it out again, and she loves opening and closing the doors, and putting the animals inside the ark.

I know someday she’ll be play-acting the story of the flood. Sometimes the simplest toys get the most mileage.

5. Agnes' Favorite "Toy"

Step Stool

Of course, she wouldn’t be a baby if she didn’t prefer playing with non-toy items most of the time.

Fortunately, this time it’s something that helps me incorporate her into getting my own things done in the house.

We don’t have the storage space for a “learning tower” so we just got a step stool. In fact, we got it for ourselves to get things off the top shelves, but Agnes loves using it to “help” us cook dinner or wash dishes.

It’s sturdy but lightweight. It locks in place when open, but folds very thin so it can fit between the fridge and the stove.

Be sure your toddler is old enough to learn safety around a stool before you let them up there, but once they’ve figured it out, it’s a great way to get little kids interested in cooking (while also actually getting dinner on the table!)

It’s been an eclectic collection of items this month!

See you next time!
